Zebra

Overview

Our Zebras room is a toddler age room catering to slightly older toddlers where the children are encouraged to foster their independence and self-help skills. The Zebras room is stocked with age appropriate toys, learning resources and activities to further develop their skills. We offer a wide variety of activities and programs in line with the Early Years Learning Framework and using music and movement, small and larger group times, one on one activities which are all designed to strengthen and further develop the children’s gross and fine motor skills, social skills and emotional development. Children in this age group are entering early learning stages with colours, letters and numbers to build the foundations for more structured learning in older age groups. Children at this age are learning important independence skills and with repetition can acquire competency, success and autonomy for personal care such as learning to dress and toilet themselves and take responsibility for packing up their own toys and activities. They are rapidly producing language and need simple books, puzzles and pictures. The children in the Zebras are also very active and enjoy jumping, running, dancing, climbing, using large muscles and requiring lots of space. They are also building social relationships with their peers and will seek out specific friends to interact with. The Zebras room has access to a wonderful yard with hard, soft, level and undulating services including artificial turf, sandstone blocks, soft fall, natural tan bark and garden beds, a bike track and our all new water play park.

Zebra’s Aims

Our program is based on the 5 learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework and aims to:
Extend children’s interests, skills and abilities
Provide an atmosphere where children can bring their culture and home life into our environment
Create a safe and secure environment; and
Meet high quality indicators of assessment and rating

Daily Program

On a daily bases educators in the room will email all families a story and some photos of what the children have been exploring and learning throughout the day. On a regular bases educators will email families personal observation on their children, these individual observation are only sent to the parents.

Flexible Daily Routine

7:00 – Centre opens, quiet activities, put sunscreen on children

7:30 – 9:00 – Outdoor/indoor activities (depending weather)

9:00 – Transition inside, morning tea

9:45 – 10:45 – Indoor activities

10:45 – 11:00 – Transition to lunch

11:00 – Lunch

12:00 – 2:00 – Rest/Sleep time

2:15 – Pack away sheets

2:15 – 2:45 – Wash hands, afternoon tea, put sunscreen on children

2:45 – 3:00 – Transition to outside

3:00 – 5:30 –  Outdoor play activities

5:30 – Transition to combined play

5:30 – 6:00 – Quiet indoor/outdoor activities

6:00 – Centre closes

Room Goals

In the Zebra room, we focus on developing the following skills:

  • toilet training
  • self help and independence
  • early learning concepts such as numbers and colours

Focus

Our programs are targeted to what the children are interested in and therefore the children drive the activities we plan.

Extra Curricular Activities Are:

Children have access to a large number of incursions and events. Examples include DanceAlong shows such as “I Love My World” and “Naidoc/Multicultural/Australiana”  shows.

Children also have access to various third party extra curricular programs such as PhysiKids, Ginger Sports, Superkidz.

Parent Involvement

We welcome and encourage parent and family involvement. We value each child’s diversity and culture and aim to include them in our programs. We love hearing about what you get up to on your weekends and incorporating these interests into our programs.
