Overview

Our Elephants room is a 2 – 3 year old room catering to slightly older toddlers where the children are encouraged to foster their independence and self-help skills.

The Elephants room is stocked with age appropriate toys, learning resources and activities to further develop their skills.

We offer a wide variety of activities and programs in line with the Early Years Learning Framework and using music and movement, small and larger group times, one-on-one activities, which are all designed to strengthen and further develop the children’s gross and fine motor skills, social skills and emotional development.

The Elephants room has access to a wonderful yard with a broad range of outdoor equipment to engage the children’s interests.

Elephants Aims

Our program is based on the 5 learning outcomes of the Early Years Learning Framework and aims to:

  • Extend children’s interests, skills and abilities;
  • Provide an atmosphere where children can bring their culture and home life into our environment;
  • Create a safe and secure environment; and
  • Meet high quality measures of assessment and rating.

Room Goals

In the Elephant room, we focus on developing the following skills:

  • Early self help and independence;
  • Early learning concepts and motor skills;
  • Early communication skills and language development; and
  • Working on connections and routines.

Daily Program

On a daily basis, Educators in the room will write and sent out stories and Observations with photos and/or videos of what the children have been exploring and learning throughout the day.

On a regular basis, Educators will send families personal observations on their children (Note: these individual observations are only sent to the child’s family).

Extra Curricular Activities

Children have access to a large number of incursions and events including:

  • Weekly Physical Education lessons with Physi Kids;
  • Weekly Music Education lessons with Music Beat Australia;
  • Weekly Mandarin Language lessons with Miss Vivian, our Mandarin Language Director; and
  • Term-based activities including Sports Days and Kids Olympics.

Flexible Daily Routine

7:00 – Centre opens

7:00 – 7:30 – Quiet activities, put sunscreen on children

7:30 – 8:30 – Indoor / outdoor activities and/or free play (depending on the weather)

8:30 – 9:00 – Transition, nappie changes, wash hands

9:00 – 9:30 – Morning tea

9:30 – 10:30 – Daily group time / Yarning Circle and programmed indoor learning experience

10:30 – 11:00 – Transition, nappy changes, wash hands

11:00 – 11:45 – Lunch (including bottle feeding for the children that requires bottles)

11:45 – 1:30 – Rest / sleep time

1:30 – 2:00 – Transition, children wake up, nappy changes, wash hands

2:00 – 2:30 – Afternoon tea

2:30 – 2:45 – Transition, put sunscreen on children

2:45 – 3:30 – Indoor / outdoor play activities and experiences (weather permitting)

3:30 – 4:00 – Nappy changes

4:00 – 5:00 – Continue indoor / outdoor activities (depending on the weather)

5:00 – 5:30 – Transition to combined play

5:30 – 6:00 – Quiet indoor / outdoor activities

6:00 – Centre closes

What is the childcare subsidy?

The Child Care Subsidy is provides higher levels of financial support to the families who earn the least, in order to make the process of returning to work less financially difficult. More importantly, this initiative gives your child an opportunity to take advantage of the benefits of an early childhood education. Family life is busy – in between juggling work and family life, there’s not a lot of time left to catch up on legislative changes, so we’ve outlined them for you.

The system is income and ‘activity-based’, giving families access to either 36, 72 or 100 hours of subsidised care per fortnight, based on the hours of combined work, training or study undertaken.

How much will I get back?

Your CCS is calculated using three components:

  • Your combined family income
  • Your level of ‘activity’
  • Your childcare provider’s hourly rate

The amount of subsidy you receive depends on your circumstances.
